Happy Birthday Tyler

T yler and I recently celebrated his 24th birthday!  Even though I spent part of his birthday weekend away, I was back in time to fix his birthday dinner:  steaks (some of the biggest steaks I've ever seen), corn on the cob, roasted vegetables, and a lemon icebox pie for dessert!  One of the easiest meals to make actually, and it was delicious...if I may say so.

Now, technically, we did not have birthday dinner on his birthday.  Since his actual birthday was on a Sunday, and he didn't want to celebrate knowing that he had school the next day, we decided to have dinner on Saturday.  On Sunday, however, it was another day of celebrating!  After sleeping in (and skipping church...shhh don't tell anyone) we drove to Little Rock for the afternoon.  We ate lunch/breakfast at Mimi's Cafe (Tyler's choice) and then quickly drove the the movie theatre to see Alice in Wonderland!

The movie was great!  We had just finished reading the book, and we were very surprised to find out that the movie was a different story than the book.  Even though it was differnet, it was very good, and we were excited to see what Tim Burton had done with the classic.

We got home just in time for handbell practice (Tyler's favorite part of the week) and then, since it would be light outside for a couple more hours...thank you daylight savings...we went on a walk around campus to check out all the construction.  We both enjoyed a cup of homemade ice cream and strawberries on our walk, and I would say it was a wonderful way to wrap up the birth-day.

To officially end the day, we continued our watch through The Lord of the Rings trilogy...we're almost done!  Soon we will be home for Spring Break, and since I'll look for any excuse to eat out, I think we might have third birthday dinner in Dallas!  We can't wait to see our family and friends...SB 2010 here we come!

A Great Weekend...Despite My Condition

A few weeks ago, Tyler had come home from school with a nauseous stomach, fever, and achy body...NOT GOOD!  After a quick 24 hours, he was back to school and feeling much better.  Before it entirely left his system though, he was sweet enough to pass it along to me!  So, on Friday morning (2:30, 3:30, 4:30, and 5:30) I was up sick...boo.  This would have been the day that my family (minus "doesn't love me that much" Kelsey) and Kayla's boyfriend Aaron was going to spend the weekend with us.  Unfortunately, I was a bit lot under the weather. After spending the day in bed, and trying to decide if it was worth their trip to Arkansas, we made the call and told them to come...hoping I would pass the 24 hour mark before we got wild and crazy on Saturday.  They got in town late Friday night (right when I decided to get sick again) and we decided to take it easy for the rest of the evening.

Though I wasn't myself 100% of the weekend, we made it work!  We spent part of the day Saturday in Hot Springs...I spent part of it sleeping in the car...and eventually, I started to shake my sickness away (even long enough to make homemade cinnamon rolls that night).  Despite the fact that I wasn't feeling my best, we had such a great weekend and it was so fun to have my family in town.  Here are a couple of pictures from downtown Hot Springs.

New Neighbors

U

nder Constructions:  There has been quite a lot of construction on Ouachita's campus in the past couple of years!  We just recently opened new dorms on the North side of campus (pictured below) and now we're expanding even more by building another set of dorms and a new pedestrian bridge.

Lucky for Tyler and I, the latest construction is going on right outside our apartment.  Crews have been working hard to finish the dorms by Fall of this year.  By the looks of things, I'd say they're going to make it.  We are so excited about getting new neighbors.  It will be fun to not be the last dorm on the block, instead, we'll be living on a cul-de-sac.  Here are a couple of pictures of the construction (RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW).

Our across the street neighbors...

Our next door neighbors...almost

Another big project on campus is the new bridge.  The old one is AWFUL!  There are holes in the ground, it often shakes when you walk on it, and it's tiny.  The new bridge is huge and so pretty.  The bridge connects the North part of campus with the rest of campus.  The next phase in this plan is to build a road that will wrap around campus and go under the bridge.  Here are a few pictures of the new bridge (so far).

We (Tyler especially) are so excited about these new things on campus, and can't wait to see what's next!

What Happens in Vegas?...The BEST Vacation Ever!

C ome June this summer, Tyler and I are taking off with two of our best friends Kolby and Emily and we're all going to VEGAS!  Okay...we're only going for one night, but it will be the first night of one awesome trip.  A week after Tyler gets out of school for the year, we are going to live it up in the Nevada/Utah/Arizona areas.  We will be spending a week traveling to different national parks in the area including:

Horseshoe Bend

Southern Coyote Butte

Bryce Canyon National Park

Zion National Park

Lower Antelope Canyon

And finally, we'll end up at...THE GRAND CANYON!!!

We are so excited about our week of adventure, and are starting to count down the days until our departure!  Our trip isn't until June, but ever since we started booking hotel rooms, cabins, plane tickets, and all those other fun things, we can't stop thinking about it.  In the meantime, we'll continue to plan out our agenda...so, if anyone has any suggestions of places we're missing that are in the area, let us know!
